BonitaSoft kicks off a new year

We just had a meeting of the minds here in Grenoble, with BonitaSofties from all over France and the United States, to have a look back at 2011 and a look forward to 2012.

We had a pretty good 2011, both in the community and in the company.

We were even able to afford some new chairs…

2011 – a pretty good year for the Bonita Community

As we start on our ambitious startup track for 2012, we’ve done a bit of looking back on 2011. Our progress has been remarkable – and we have a lot to thank our community for.

Here’s a quick reminder of what we are appreciative to you all for:

  • 10,000 community members, who have added around 30,000 posts on almost 7000 topics. Among our community we have approximately:
    • 1,300 in the US
    • 1,100 in France
    • 700 in India
    • 500 in Spain
    • 500 in Brazil
    • 400 in Germany
    • 350 in the UK
  • 1,000,000 downloads: what else can we say? Thank you for your continuing confidence in Bonita.

And speaking of looking forward – check out the community contest Pimp my Bonita – a chance to win the admiration of all and valuable prizes!

Behind the Scenes at BonitaSoft (12-23 December 2011)

Have you weighed in on the “email is dead” discussion?

BonitaSoft CEO Miguel Valdes Faura authored an article on GigaOM earlier this month. He pointed to the example of Atos Origin, which declared its intentions to completely phase email out of their internal operations within the next three years, and mused: Is email in the enterprise entering its twilight at 40?

As you can well imagine, this provoked a bit of back-and-forth both in the blog comments and in the Twittersphere…

OK, email isn’t actually going away any time soon for most of us, of course. But business communication channels are evolving…and so is Bonita Open Solution User Experience.

Bonita Open Solution v5.X bases the Bonita User Experience on an email model – manage your processes and tasks in an interface that feels rather gmail-like.

Bonita Open Solution v6, currently under development by the R&D team in Grenoble, is going to be…different.

It’s too soon to share details (we’re in the early mock-up stage), but they look sweet. Think…process apps. Clean, crisp, and pretty cool.

Our process communication channels are evolving.  (And we promise not mess with your email, either.)

Stay tuned!

Behind the Scenes with BonitaSoft (6 Dec 2011)

There was a bit of a buzz today in the BonitaSoft offices when our copy* of BPMN Method and Style, Second Edition, arrived.

We’ve been using Bruce Silver’s method and style in Bonita Open Solution development (as well as in our training on business process modeling with BOS).  So it’s very cool to see Bonita Open Solution used to illustrate the relationship between a process model and a executable design in a real BPMS in Chapter 23, Executable BPMN in Practice.

If you’re interested in Bruce’s disciplined method and style of applying the BPMN2 standard – here’s one place where you can get your copy.  (Put it on your Wish List for a holiday gift!  Sorry, Kindle edition not yet available…)

*autographed by the author.  Double cool.

Have fun with Bonita and BPMN!

Above the Scenes with BonitaSoft (16-20 Nov 2011)

The gang at BonitaSoft is definitely NOT all work, no play.

Aren’t the French Alps breathtaking at the crack of dawn?

Those are the Swiss Alps in the background. Mont Blanc (and beyond it, Switzerland/Italy) are just to center right here:

And, that’s Julien Mege to the left up there. A little hard to recognize without his laptop, maybe?

Behind the Scenes with BonitaSoft (Nov 15 2011)

…and the deed is done!

Some 40 PITA bugs have been dealt with…

…watch for the results in a release near you (in BOS 5.6.1, coming soon).

Here’s the whole PITA gang after 2 long days of intensity, with the winning team in the front row.

Yep, those guys holding the valuable prizes are the Wet Bandits (les Casseurs-Flotteurs):
Anthony Birembaut, Antoine Mottier, Elias Ricken de Medeiros, Yhon Acurio, Romain Bioteau, and Mihai Coucy.

Congratulations guys!

And thanks to all the PITA players for your contributions to improving Bonita Open Solution for everyone.
